How BoF Careers became the leading recruitment platform for the fashion industry
Reinventing an age old approach to finding talent
At the time of launching BoF Careers in 2014, most job boards catered to retail jobs and because most listings were posted by recruiting agencies the candidate experience was extremely poor. Making it impossible to know what brands were hiring behind the job ads, we changed the game by banning agencies from posting. By emphasising the importance of ‘employer branding’ through content — a very new concept then — we educated employers on the importance of transparency. This allowed us to position ourselves as the go-to resource for the best brands in fashion, and thus we charged a premium. By exclusively focusing on head office roles we created value for the very readers who themselves were mainly corporate professionals.
With a few tweaks to an age old approach of posting jobs to find talent (remember the classifieds section?), we created the most coveted recruitment site in the industry.
Today, BoF Careers represents over 400 employers and lists well over 3,000 jobs at any given time. BoF Careers became profitable in its first year and still remains to this day one of the most reliable multi-million dollar recurring revenue streams — as well as a source of new and return visitors — for The Business of Fashion.
